LaLaLaLaLa Ghosts

La La La La La La La La

The Addams Family

The Addams Family is coming to the big screen, but this time in stop motion (not computer animated). Imagine Nightmare Before Christmas, but with the Addams'- yesssss. Tim Burton will direct the film, according to producer Christopher Meledandri.

Meledandri says:

"We're just now at the story phase. Stuff has been written as though we are doing it in black and white, but that's not correct. It's not incorrect, but it's not correct. We haven't gotten to that point."

He's the perfect man for the job. Perhaps Fall 2012? So exciting!

Georgetown Cupcake has a free flavor everyday.
Not sure how they feel about me exposing this (you have to follow them on Twitter).

Log on, there's a flavor each day that, when you call in and give your name, tell them you want their secret flavor-pick up and it's free. Georgetown or Bethesda locations xx.
I'm sorry, I can't help myself. It's funny.

round 2

Last weeks painting small fiasco wont keep me down.
I'm going for round 2. My cubicle needs some color and personalization.

octopus ring

All things under the sea for summer!
I gravitate to a "genre" of animal each season. Last fall I was obsessed with owls. This summer, all things aquatic. It's not always marine life for summer- I was into seagulls last year.

Kenneth Jay Lane Octopus Ring.
In stores, not online..yet.

Sammy B. excellent display.

Meet Clive

His name is Clive.
I don't need to say anything else.

(sigh) yesterday was a bust. I bougt a canvas, put on some Ben Harper had my windows open and was ready to go. My problem... I never can seem to paint using warm colors.. EVER! After scraping the canvas 3 times of it's muddled grey paint blob i had to throw the canvas out.. and wasted a good 3 tubes of paint probably. Blah!

The above is not mine...
Will try again!

Tuesday, June 15, 2010

I have an itch to simply create. Paint, write a book, just roll with whatever comes my way. No excuses, im going to plaza arts after work.

Monday, June 14, 2010

I had to keep this one for myself..
You wont find my signature on the face of the painting.. it's elsewhere (not on the back either)

# 4 tina's painting

Sundays are meant to be days of rest. After saying Bon Voyage to a friend on her way to Rome for who knows how long, and some shopping, it was time to unwind. I paint.  This piece belongs to my little sister who just moved into her first apartment.  # 4

I always manage to get my fingers on the wet canvas. I don't mind the minor accident ever, especially when the art transfers from the canvas and creates a print on my fingers.
This had to have been the most barefaced "stink eye" I've ever seen on broadcasted television. The slip-through goal that Robert Green mistakenly let roll across the goal line grabbed the attention of every spectator watching Saturdays game. Those in England probably clamped the sides of their heads and yelled at whatever screen they were watching on.

The point of this blog isn't what Green did, or didn't do (protect the goal), but the look David Beckham gave him. It was pure stink eye. It was worse than anything Juno received in the hallway. They showed the ball roll in, they showed Green, they showed the US's reaction, they showed the replay, and then it happened. THE STINK EYE.

I  hope the guy isn't chastised too much- after all it was a mistake. As one soccer player said, "It'll make him a better goalie".  Aside from that Beckham looked very nice in his 3-piece, charcoal suit, stank eye and all.

big ego

I found this book in my cubicle left from the woman I replaced- btw congratulations Brooke!

You’ll notice the before and after photos. If a book is good, this is what it looks like after I read it.

Not the point. This book is great. It’s message is delivered in very simple terms, it’s not long, and the font is at least 20 pt, but this small 125 page book makes you think, originally, about other people’s ego’s and then author Joel Epstein turns the tables on you. He literally tells you at the end to read the book again, and don’t think of anyone else but yourself.

All of our egos are balls of energy that are the same size. We face our egos each day in almost every encounter we have. It’s our ability to control “Information Cops” and “But Man’s” that come within us, to prevent us from hindering our own selves.  We all have something to gain from the people we meet every day. If you can’t accept this thought, you’re losing.

“Every man I meet is in some way my superior, and I can learn from him.”
- Ralph Waldo Emerson.

No one is right 100% all of the time. This doesn’t make us stupid, uncreative, or unsuccessful. Why not expose ourselves to as many possibilities, ideas, and concepts that we can in order to broaden our way of doing things? I got excited when I was able to connect this book to another one I’m currently reading “The Wisdom of the Crowds” by James Surowiecki. I love when, without intent, 2 books I read simultaneously relate to the other. I digress…

To truly have and exercise an ego that provides the most productive and successful result, you have to have the ability to step back and really understand a situation for what it is. Don’t allow your ego or fear of being wrong or humiliated from preventing you from gaining something to learn.

I’d rather experience a minute of hesitation and self-inflicted humiliation for raising my hand and asking a question than do nothing and still be unclear. Perhaps the answer is somewhat elementary, but I’m that much smarter, than if I sat in silence.

No one wants to be wrong, but it’s ok to be wrong! It takes a lot to “Bend Your Elbow” and take responsibility for something and see how you can amend it. I’ve been wrong MANY times in my life, but one thing my parents instilled in me was that it always feels better to take responsibility to work towards a solution than argue on the subject, which never accomplishes anything.

The point of this book is not to put your ego aside, but how to put it to its highest and best use for you.

“The lesson that most of us on this voyage never learn, but can never seem to forget is, that to win is sometimes to lose”.

But it's not really losing is it? Amen.

sillybandz

SillyBandz. I guess the whole point of these colored, rubber wristlets, in a multitude of shapes and colors, is to collect them and show your friends how many you have and what kinds.

Ok fair enough… but the shapes don’t stay. Case and point- the photo above, no clue what this girl or guy is sporting, and why would I want to trade a shapeless bracelet?

A lot of the shapes are intricate outlines of baseball players or surfers, sea shells and lobsters, letters of the alphabet- loo!  A mermaid! It’s a great idea, but what happens when the bracelet stretches?

Buy more! !! I don’t know how much these things cost, but at their popularity rate they can’t be so much that parents aren’t willing to buy packs at a time.
We had Pogs and Garbage Pail Kid cards… now that was collecting and trading.

bracelets

Grab a bundle, you can never have too many-
mmm,may be never past mid-forearm.

Has anyone else heard of these Sillybandz things?
Apparently they're like the new "Pogs"

I really think I have a problem. I love these shoes.
I refer to these as my "So nice, I bought them twice shoes".

Being somewhere between 5'3 and 5'4, playing around with the 5'8 category is fun. I like how I can see the full upper shelf in my medicine cabinet.

jack white loretta lynn

Jeez this is good. Ms. Loretta Lynn is the only person
who can pull off a long, pink, puffy sleeved, sequin dress.
1:55 listen to Jack.. Melt. And he steals a kiss at 3:17.

big box little shoes

I would love to know who packaged this-
I got these shoes a couple of weeks ago. I love them. My mom always said if you find something that you know you'll wear to death, better get more than 1 so you don't have to be too careful worrying about wearing out the originals.

Anyways..

The light on my wall mounted, kitchen phone was blinking, alerting me I had a package. I went downsairs, signed my slip, and this huge box came out. Before I could think "how am I going to carry this", our frontman at the desk assured me it was half empty. He was right.

But why the huge box?? It provided some amusement for the evening.
And I have my shoes!
I'm still trying to figure out what Lady Gaga was trying to convey in her latest music video installment:

ALEJANDRO

I'm trying to tie together the German, Catholic, Spanish, S&M, Moe from the 3 Stooges haircut deal.

Anyone also noticing how Madonna circa 1990-1994 is making a complete comeback?
La Isla Bonita vs. Alejandro
Cone Bra vs. Machine Gun Bra.
Mens Pant Suit  vs. Mens Pant Suit with Vest (instead of jacket)
Short, Platinum Hair vs. Short Platinum Hair

Love the song, the video I'm still thinking about.
Thoughts?

This is a really interesting book... It focuses on how a collective group tends to be, and is, smarter than a single person, no matter how informed the individual is.

Surowiecki does a good job providing examples of other people's work, but I'm hoping instead of just repeating results he'll provide some more insight on how to apply this theory to those who consider themselves to be, and strive to be, entrepreneurial.

Yellow, fish, wedges didn't happen... Green, white, and enamel did.  These were necessary on a rainy day. The brand name "Butter" also greatly influenced my decision to purchase.

this band is rediculous

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zero's

pickout the night before

I'm a fan of the 20 minute up-and-out routine. Pick your clothes out the night before.

Tomorrow: Yellow, fish, wedges...

They Had Cake

I couldn't help but think how this looked like an artists palette.  Each type of cake, filling, and icing it's own color.. Besides the point-

My sister is getting married this fall and I was invited to come along for the tasting this past weekend. Thinking the 5 of us (big sister, her fiancee, little sis, mom, and me) would split a plate, I was sorely mistaken.
We each got our own plate, pictured above, and the sugar rush made its presence known after about 15 minutes when all I could do was take deep breaths and stare as I came down from my high.

I'd gladly do it again.

Work Shoes

I couldn't help myself today... I broke out the post Memorial Day "WHITE" shoes. These are a couple of years old and are a little battled and bruised, but so fun.  I'm all for dressing appropriate for work occasions, but without any tours or client meetings I broke out the straw weave, eyelet white wedges.

There's no way I would've been able to wear these at my last job (boo). So happy to be where I am now.

The strawberry can be used as I pin, but I dare not remove them- they embellish the bow quite well.

Home

Alabama, Arkansas
I do love my ma and pa,
Not the way that I do love you.

If you haven't had the pleasure of being exposed to Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero's please go on you tube or their website and check them out. This electic 1969- free loving, hippie, family of a band is making its name on the music scene.  There is no Edward Sharpe in the band, just a nomadic group of young folks with beards and long hair joyfully singing to life.

HOME is one of the happiest songs I've ever heard and will get stuck in your head without annoying you. Jade, one of two lead singers, belts out smokey and joyful notes, jumping around barefoot (or sometimes with shoes) in vintage sundresses,  with huge grin on her face always.

They made an appearance on David Letterman sometime back, but if you're in the mood to dance and have that "good time feeling", Isuggest going on their website and finding the nearest and soonest show to attend. JULY 10!!!

Hawaii

If there was one thing that I absolutely didn't need and purely wanted... for the last 2 summer seasons, it's her.

Hawaii Custom by Electra Bikes
She's girly and slightly rediculous, but the bike makes me want to cruise around the boardwalk munching down Thrashers fries while listening to Mungo Jerry "In the Summer Time".

Dum Dums

Who remembers these?  They were always free in the grocery stores or found at your doctors office. It's not just that the flavors are great, but the size of a dum dum is what makes it good. It's the perfect size to hide in the side of your cheek without looking like you had a wad of big league chew bubble gum stuck in there.

You also have the option to bite and break the lolli whenever you want, you don't have to wait until it widdles down to a certain size. Dum dums.

Flavor of the blog: Rootbeer.

Little Monsters

My heart became a little sore the other day. Anthropologie had textiles by Ruth Ashton- Monsters of the Household Variety. This is truly a fascinating book and collection of art. Each print is hand sewn, stitched, and embellished.  The book itself is a whopping $1200.00, but Anthropologie had each separate monster framed for still a somewhat outlandish $298.00.

I waited patiently for them to go on sale since they continued to be in stock. I stopped checking because after weeks and weeks nothing changed... then all of a sudden I remember my little monsters. GASP! They were no longer there, they had gone on sale for a third of their original price.  Allus Goneus and the other Hideous Iticous (with the feathered arm pits) can no longer be found.
I tried desperately to locate the little fellows at Anthropologie stores, but to no avail.   I will say I reached out to Ruth personally, she responded within a couple of days.  She was very accomdating and you can actually purchase the prints directly though her, unfortunateyl the only size she does custom are a little out of my price range. It wasn't meant to be for right now. I'm sure some other creatures will pop up eventually.

Lolly Daze

Farewell BlueSmee, hello Lolly Daze- which the name just fits better I think.  No particular rhyme or reason, but there will definitely be more themes instead of random rants (which you'll still see occasionally).
